Bodrum House Turkey 2006

Bodrum house is a proposal for an unknown land in bodrum , Turkey.Michael & Vinh has moved to Bodrum from Los Angeles. They have decided to pack and leave to find an exotic place in the world to build a modern house to live the rest of their life. The land has not been bought but the characteristics of the site was anticipated. It had to be close to the medeterranian coast without any developed civilization around it.
In order to propose to undetermined site , the project has to be very flexiable to fit in various conditions. So that Bodrum house has an '+' shape. It can be rotated per the prospective site conditions.Bdrim house has big openings on every end in order to bring exterior to interior without distracting its continuation and to be able to capture different frames of nature.
The center square piece functions as an interior courtyard with semi open ceiling to provide remenicents of the nature inside the house in the cold winter days.

GREEN ROOFS
American cities have a surprising amount of wasted open space. Even in densely packed urban areas like New York City, the prime real estate atop roofs is given much less consideration than one would expect from a populace that values each square foot of space so highly. This oversight is a real shame, because there is so much that can be done to improve the local environment and quality of life, simply by fixing up a roof.
The average city rooftop is layered with black tar, a material which traps sunlight and heat, raising the temperature of the surrounding area. The heat trapped by dark, flat roofs elevates city temperatures as much as ten degrees Fahrenheit - contributing to what scientists call the “urban heat island” effect.
Cool RoofsThe easiest and quickest solution to combat the urban heat effect is simply to turn hot dark roofs into“cool roofs” by painting them with a basic coating of light-colored water sealant. In the same way that white clothing helps keep you cool in the summertime, white roofs reflect sunlight and heat. If all the roofs in New York City were ?cool roofs?, the city would save some $100 million dollars per year in cooling costs.
Green RoofsAn even better alternative to cool roofs (albeit one that requires more time and effort) is to turn waste roofs into landscaped

Green Roofs. Green roofs having the same cooling effect of white roofs, with the added benefits of:
* Providing amenity space for building users ? replacing a yard or patio
* Increasing roof life span* Reducing storm water run off* Providing noise insulation
* Filtering pollutants and CO2 out of the air
* Providing locally grown food (with roof-top vegetable gardens)
* Increasing wildlife habitat in built up areas
* Reducing heating (by adding mass and thermal resistance value) and cooling (by evaporative cooling) loads on a building* Reducing the urban heat island effect

The HOME

The Home is a prototype of an innovative small living place. In the modern city life where every single mediocrity suffers from rent and space environment. So that we have to rethink the pattern and abilities to build spaces for living. We need more controlled natural light and air.We need more functional spaces not necessarrily bigger. We need to comsume less in order to spend on life.

The paradigm of home was a secure place to protect yourself from outer dangers in the past decades starting from the first grottos used by menkind for houseing purposes. But this concept has been evolved to a certain level where people are much more exposed to outer attractions.

Since the city life provides less green , green attracts more.Green has to be considered carefully and respectedly in the awareness of its production of O2 and Co2.So as green should be able to penetrate into the living spaces visiually or directly by being the continuation of the mother earth.

The home tries to expand its limits without walls.Using the glass as a protection from the outer dangers as exposed as possible by welcoming exterior into interior.

By shifting volumes in different heights creates two other spaces for various uses.

The repetetion of the idea would create a small village like living concept.

ELEMENTAL CHILE 2004

ELEMENTAL is an international housing initiative based in Chile which advances innovative architecture, technology, urban design and community development for the purpose of designing and building low-cost housing for those who live in the poorest segments of society. The Conference will discuss the Chilean experience, as well as identify lessons concerning its replicability and transferability to other countries in the region.
